New Canadian study suggests that if children of depressed mothers attend day care, it will benefit them and they will have less emotional problems.
Researchers from University of Quebec, Montreal conducted the study from 1997-98 through the child’s fifth birthday on about 1800 children born during 1997-98 in Quebec. About 19 percent of the mothers had depression symptom.
Developing emotional problems is high for the children of depressed mothers. But, being in a day care seemed to mitigate that effect the study concluded.
